Osun workers rally behind Adeleke as governor dismisses election pressure

 

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, says he is not under pressure ahead of the August 15 governorship election, as organised labour in the state declared support for his second-term bid.

Speaking at the “Day Out with Mr Governor and Osun State Workers” interactive session organised by the Osun State Joint Labour Movement in Osogbo on Monday, Adeleke said he had God and the people of Osun on his side, urging workers and other eligible voters not to be intimidated.

The governor said his administration had fulfilled its promises to workers through the implementation of the ₦75,000 minimum wage, regular payment of salaries and pensions, clearance of over ₦80 billion in inherited salary and pension obligations, restoration of the office of Permanent Secretaries, funding of outstanding promotions, free enrolment of pensioners and traditional rulers into the Osun Health Insurance Scheme, recruitment of teachers, and youth empowerment programmes.

He also assured workers that his administration remained committed to their welfare and promised immediate approval and implementation of the newly proposed minimum wage once an agreement was reached.

“Your decision to stand firmly for truth and continuity despite intimidation demonstrates commitment to the future of our dear state. However, support alone is not enough. On Saturday, August 15, every eligible worker must convert that support into votes. Your PVC is your voice. Your vote for Imole is your power,” he said.

Adeleke urged workers to come out early to vote, encourage others to participate, and resist intimidation, stressing that democracy must prevail.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun State, Christopher Arapasopo, said the opposition knew workers and pensioners were influential voters and warned that organised labour would not accept an inconclusive election or the cancellation of votes in any polling unit.

He added that workers would remain committed to protecting their votes and ensuring that the outcome of the governorship election reflected the will of the people.
