It is highly likely that De Ligt will leave Ajax over the summer, but the rumours are allowing for a potential stay in the Eredivisie, until a better offer comes in that suits his economic requirements.

The full-back is desired by several clubs who has also demanded a large sum of money, which the likes of Barcelona have had to abandon.

It seemed that the Ajax player's priority was to move to the Catalan club alongside his compatriot Frenkie De Jong, in what would be one of the biggest transfer deals in Barcelona's history.

"I'm very excited about what the near future has in store for me, but I'm also calm. I see it as a challenge, that's the most important thing," he said in an interview for 'RTL Boulevard'.

For the moment, everything continues as normal. De Ligt is keeping his options open: "I have options and what I have to do is look at which one is the best. It seems logical that one is better that another".
